I know XP is old and I shouldn't be using it, but it's my parents computer and they won't uprgade unless it's broken. I want to be logged into the computer running a program, and then switch user but not have the '1 program running' message under my name on the welcome screen. Is there a way to hide this?

I gotta ask - what does it matter if it shows up?
I haven't found yet how you can turn it off (just google it, probably in the registry), however you could just turn off Fast User Switching and log off when you're done (or do you absolutely need to run a program while not around?

Turn off "Use the welcome screen" and not the "fast user switching" so you can use Control+L and then a screen like this appears and no one can see your active using programs. You'll also log in the same format instead of the welcome screen.
