When I was growing up, there was practically a promise made , that virtual reality would be in every home. Lawnmower Man, Tron, Until the End of the World, Disclosure, Brainstorm, the nineties were all abuzz about virtual reality. No more Nintendo, controlling Mario with buttons, you would dress-up in a bunch of hi-tech garb and "be" Mario. I had many dreams and fantasies about playing Legend of Zelda in Virtual reality, but that still hasn't happened.
So what happened? We have the technology. I believe we could even manufacture a VR system cheaply. $1000 isn't asking too much, I'd pay that, even for a considerably poor VR set-up. We have 3D, we have amazing computer technology. Video graphics have grown as much in the last five years as it did in the twenty years before it. So why don't I have an Xbox VR sitting in the place of my 360?
Remember the headache-causing Nintendo Virtual Boy? I thought that was the way gaming systems would go when it came out. I remember thinking "this is the Atari of VR, it'll only get better from here". But nothing. link text

Good question really. I've been waiting for Virtual Reality to come true. Though the technology now is capable of doing it, I have to say that maybe the people working on it found something else better to work on. Though maybe someone out there is working on making Virtual Reality an actual reality, We just never know. I assure you one thing though, if someone worked on VRs now, it will be a fine piece of work. I do think it would be something worth working on though. To be quite frank, I totally forgot about VRs until you mentioned it. I've waited for so long that I have sort of lost interest in waiting for it to happen. For now, I can safely say, whoever wants to make VR come true, It'll be a lot of cash rolling in. The possibilities is endless, maybe you can even travel around the world...without even living, no fun, but at least it's something..

The closest we have at the moment in the mainstream market is the Kinect :P
