I don't really know, I think the reason why they (Facebook) keep it out is to prevent flame wars in the comments section. Or the whole "Don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all" saying...

For. Flame wars are unavoidable and COMMENTING about not liking something is usually what sparks the comment wars.. A dislike button would make it much easier and probably prevent some of these things.

Yes but that's directly from user involvement. I think adding the dislike button would only fuel the fire.

The way I see it being useful is when someone posts "my dog just died" or "I got really wet in the rain" fellow firends could dislike. I personally think it would be a bit of fun between friends, a bit of banter and to be honnest if you start a flame war then you shouldn't be friends with them in the first place!

I think Facebook is doing the right thing. It would just cause even more disagreements and arguments than already occur in the comments. It keeps it more of a 'friendly' environment.

I agree, they're trying to do the right thing by trying to prevent flame wars. On the other hand, forums (including this one), Youtube, etc. have ways to show distaste, and it doesn't seem to cause any more trouble than without it.

Because you must earn a certain amount of "Karma" before you can vote down.

If you can do that immediately then it will only be a downhill slope.

Flame wars are upon you, whether you risk it or not. (reworded quotes)

I'm done with Facebook. Let the Memes keep their buttons, I really don't care so long as the vast majority of them stay off Google+. I loved Facebook in 2008, then the asses took over and started notifying me when they felt good, or bad, or they had to pee, or they just met a new boy/girl. I'm so tired of facebook. I use it to wish friends and relative a happy birthday and that's about it. Google+ is where it's at, let's just hope they don't figure that out.

Against the idea.

People will dislike something for the sake of it, and not out of some genuine grievance or disagreement.

On youtube people will dislike on a competition giveaway, or on a review because it does not support their biased view.

The problem is that it'd be misused too much by some.
