While following the live coverage and the reactions to the new iPhone, I can't help but notice that people are disappointed only because it wasn't called and iPhone 5 with a curved case. Sure it looks like the iPhone 4 but look at all that's changed; the camera; the iOS; the Siri etc? Imagine if the iPhone 4 would've been called the 3GS-2 or something and the, now, 4S called just the iPhone 4. I mean don't you think this supposed disappointment is unjustified?

no it's not unjustified, not only is the name a rehash of the 3gs, and every other phone who wants to add the 's' for speed -.- But the phone actually sucks! New CPU was expected, dual core nice! New camera also expected! more RAM? was expected but noooo. We get Siri, software can be implemented on all the phones, same thing with iOS. The new phone is just a new CPU and a new Camera. Just like the 3Gs. It's a disgrace. When you look at other companies releasing new phones they always change the appearance, the specs, the hardware and what not. This is just a lazy move from Apple. It's even late by 3 months. I lost all remaining hope for Apple now :O

Yes but look at it this way:

Siri is very advanced Artificial Intelligence software that needs a lot of juice to run. And I doubt the iPhone 4 can handle it very well with all the other multitasking going on. I'm pretty sure this product is well thought out as expected of Apple.

As for the disappointment, I think it's only because people have to cooking up too many baseless rumors rather than being patient for the real deal.

yes of course everyone have high expectations from Apple, which is never a good idea because then it's impossible for Apple to deliver :O But still.. iPhone 4s? In one way it's true because they cannot name it iPhone 5 because it's not really a new phone.. It's an update.

About the performance, they said the same thing about the video camera, multitasking, multipushing, springboard wallpapers etc.. ffs I had all of that on my iPhone 3G. When the iPhone 3G was released in my country I got video recording the same day. No problems. I got a multitasking solution app that still imo works better than the one implemented by Apple years later. And I had animated wallpapers. I'm pretty sure this AI takes so much from the phone. And if it does, would you even want it running? If it's more than the iPhone 4 can handle then it'll drain your battery like crazy.

The 4s does have more RAM. This model now has a whole 1GB of the stuff.

I kinda expected it to be just an upgrade in specs.

No, I'm disappointed in it because it could never come close the the quality of Android.

Self admitted and proud of it. Though, more a Linux fanboy then Android. It just so happens that Android is based on Linux. I have explained my reasoning many times on these boards. Open source beats out proprietary software EVERY time. Any time you as the user can make the software yours instead of what they want you to have, that piece of software wins.

yes. it actually is a complete redesign internally, virtually everything is different on the inside, its just called the 4s. i think the dual band radio is quite clever but at the same time stupid because technically you could buy it for one carrier, whichever offers it the cheapest and put it on another. i'll buy it because i want a quality 4g phone that wont be outdated tomorrow like all the rubbish droid handsets.

Rubbish droid handsets? And who is the fanboy? Put this thing up against the Galaxy S2, see who comes out ahead.

I'm sure there's gonna be plenty of chances to see them pitted against each other.

I think people are disappointed in the name and the product only because the hype was around the iPhone 5. Along with that hype came the possibilities of a new design, a widescreen display, and other things that we didn't get but were heavily rumored. We essentially got an iPhone 4 with new hardware, and I think people's expectations were way too high.

people expect far too much and cry when apple can't deliver. you just wait, give people a week and there gonna be going crazy about more iPhone 5 rumors.

This seems to be the format, a new design every two years and general updates once a year, when you think about it making some huge change every year may be a bit much.

No, the zero change in physical style was extremely underwhelming. And this "Siri" - I seriously have a thing against anything voice command related, because it is robotic sounding and inhuman. And also disturbing to people around you.

The processor is cool, but seriously, I'm content with my iPhone 4, it's fast enough.
