all right guys, i recent ally bought a late 2008 macbook pro of ebay. i was wondering how to go about installing 8gb of ram? i have installed and upgraded a few machines before but i just want it clarified by someone a little more experienced than me. would it involve me installing a new logic board? if so would any one be able to find me one that would fit the model? once again, its a late 2008 15inch macbook pro. the first gen unibody.

JUST TO CLARIFY, I KNOW HOW TO INSTALL RAM, I WANT TO INCREASE THE LIMIT, MY MACBOOK HAS A LIMIT OF 4GB OF RAM AND I WOULD LIKE TO INCREASE THAT TO 8.

edit: just read that a firmware update back in 2009 has allowed my macbook to run up to 8gb RAM. thanks for al the answers guys

thanks allot guys

if its from 2008 its probably 32 bit. 32 bit processors only support 4 gigs of ram so don't wast your money putting in 8

continued: outside of getting a new processor you cannot upgrade to anything over 4gb. it'll still work, but you will only be able to access 4gb of it.

do you know if a i5 for a new model would fit in the 2008 model? i know they chaged the layout of the unibody after the late 2008 mbp.

thanks :)

im not positive if it'll go or not but i doubt it. also if it did i would not recommend trying to upgrade a processor on your own unless you know exactly what your doing. you can easily ruin the entire computer if you release any static or scratch the mother board trying to get the processor off or anything. 4 gb is plenty of ram though why do you think you need 8?

It's very easy to replace the RAM in MacBook Pros. There are simple, detailed instructions in your manual that you got with your computer, the same instructions are also available here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1270#link5

If it has a limit of 4GB then it has a limit of 4GB of ram you cannot increase that amount.
