Hi, I was considering about when I should buy an iMac. Will there become a late-2011 iMac or will there be an new iMac in may 2012? And is the update a huge update? Like a design update and a CPU and GPU update?

If i should buy a mac right now i should buy an 27" iMac with a Intel Core i7 3.4 Ghz Quad-Core processor and AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 2 GB GDDR5 and 16GB of DDR3-1333 RAM Price: arround 2200 euro (3000 USD)

What should i do? (Sorry for my English)

There will "probably" be a CPU and GPU update next year. However, May is a long time away, you might want to just get it if you need the computer, if you don't need it then don't get it.

Right now i have an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 and a PC from 2009 (specs below) I don't really need an hardware upgrade, because all things i want to do i can do on my old system. But the fact is that I like the products of Apple, i want to try more then only iOS.

I can't get my eyes of the iMac 27" because it looks nice, it has a nice big display, the mouse and keyboard are wireless and are beautiful, the specs are better than my current PC, it can run Windows as wel, it saves space on my desktop and of course I really want to get my hands on Mac OS X.

So it isn't like I need a new computer because the old one is slow or outdated. But I really want an iMac just because of all listed above.

Current specs (PC) :

AMD Phenom X4 955 3.2 Ghz Quad-Core

4GB RAM DDR2-800

XFX Radeon HD5770 1GB GDDR5

640GB Western Digital HDD 5400 RPM

Samsung DVD-Writer

Acer 24" Full-HD 1080p Display

You have a more than capable system.

Maybe add up the ram to 8GB, upgrade the HDD to a 1TB 7200rpm drive, and get a better graphics card. You'd have a whole new PC without having to spend 2000 euro on something flashy.

That's the problem, if I should upgrade my current PC then i should upgrade everything except the 4 blue CCFL lights :P so I could better buy a whole new PC. But then....

I don't have Mac OS X. Unless I use Hackintosh, but I tried it before and that was pain in the ass for me. I got so much problems with drivers, combo updates, OSX 10.5 while there was 10.6 and more...... And then also i don't have the design and feeling of Apple.

Which part of OSX causes you to really need it?

I just want to try it and i think i will like it a lot, most people are very positive about it. iOS is the best OS i've ever met, some people say Mac OS is even better. Also, it can run Windows as wel so I don't miss anything i can do now.

You might wanna check out Linux.

I already have Ubuntu, but I think i will wait for May 2012 if someone can confirm that the iMac will be updated in May 2012 or earlier...

Linux is great. But it's not Mac OSx. Not by any means. If you want an iMac get one. The resale value on Macs are extraordinary. If you turned around and sold it in May you'd get nearly all your money back. By the way, don't pay for Apple's memory, get the upgrade set from crucial and save yourself a ton of money. Good Luck.

I know Apple scams you with the memory prizes, I will buy the Corsair 16GB 1333 RAM separetly. It will costs me 86 euro (115 USD) Thanks for all the help!!
