I will be using CentOS 6 for server, but, want a more user friendly os for regular use, put on Ubuntu 11.04 x64 but it was crashing and hanging. Have others had that prob, or just my install?

Started off with Ubuntu, dabbled with FreeBSD, used Fedora for school, and currently run ChromeOS on a netbook. I greatly enjoy Ubuntu for its simplicity and I got way too used to using Aptitude to easily switch to other distros.
If you're having issues, there is a repair function on Ubuntu 10.04+ disks. Otherwise, supply details (what you're doing when it crashes, any messages, etc) and see if we can group-diag.

My favorite Linux distribution is most likely Lubuntu...the LXDE version of Ubuntu, even though it doesn't look too much like Ubuntu.
I use this for almost all of my older computer (and even the newer ones), because the lighter the operating system, the faster the overall experience is.
If you are making a first move to Linux, and you want to get a decent UI, try out Ubuntu, because it's pretty user friendly.

I tried Ubuntu 11.04 , but it is a little bit inpractical with new unity desktop environment,if there wasnt that side dock, or if you just could move it to bottom, it would be perfect. New Linux Mint aka Katya is pretty good i must say, but decision is on you. And these two are the best choice for beginer on Linux. And you could also give Debian a chance, cause after all Debian is "mother" of these two , and more.
