I recently acquired a netbook with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it.
I'm trying to change the default location to where Windows wants to install any of my new software.
On XP this was a simple, single registry edit.
I've found multiple recommendations online, but none I've tried so far fixes the issue consistently for everything I try to install.
Any reliable suggestions to do this?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit is on C:\
I've added 2 partitions: E:\ (for applications) & F:\ (for data i.e. 'My Pictures', 'My Documents', etc....have 'Moved' my profile data file folders there successfully via the Properties of those folders)
When I install new software like Firefox or Google Chrome I want the default location to come up in the installer as "E:\Program Files" instead of "C:\Program Files"
(greatly reduces the need to defrag everything all in one partition, and the risk of odd problems from having everything on my OS partition)

seeing a few references to two versions of regedit on the 64 bit system...
and that much of this under the hood stuff is the same as it was in Vista.
looks like there are 4 registry edits necessary... want to find some more evidence of credibility before I make the changes though.
