Statistics say that Internet Explorer 8 extends your battery life. Right after that comes Firefox. Hope I helped. :D

I've heard that, and I use OS X as primary OS, but I use Chrome, and it is a pretty light browser, and I can get good battery.

I'd say Chrome and then the dead browser Opera, Opera's pretty good, and it didn't waste battery like heavy Firefox.

With chrome there is a small tradeoff, based on some newer methods of power management, some cores can be significantly downloaded or turned off. since firefox only uses 1 core, it allows for that power management to better take place, and the addition of adblock and no script significantly reduces the resource usage of the browser since most of the resource intensive content will not load unless you allow them selectively.

But on the other hand, chrome offers better performance than firefox, IE, Opera, and safari when it comes to dealing with a large number of tabs. Even though the browser is single threaded, it distributes the workload for each tab across all CPU cores, allowing for overall better performance when dealing with multiple cores.

Another thing to consider that may be interesting is that opera is releasing a updated version which will allow for greater GPU acceleration than other browsers. While it remains too be seen how much content will be accelerated, it is worth mentioning since a GPU has a higher performance per wall ratio and in most cases, the GPU load put on by programs such as this will not be high enough to even cause the GPU to clock up. (this significantly improves battery life (eg look as hardware acceleration for flash) (especially on the mobile devices)

For the best battery life, you can get good results using firefox, with adblock and noscript.

This significantly reduces the CPU usage while browsing the web since theres less resource intensive content to load.

Most ads are not resource friendly and will increase CPU usage, and most scripting or other non ad content on some sites also waste CPU sysles.

Use adblock to get rid of the annoying ads, then use no script to disable scripting and selectively allow only the scripts you need (most sites work fine with out scripting.

i don't know for sure but i know opera has a speed setting that doesn't load the unimportant parts of a webpage. i forget what they call it but I'm assuming since it loads less it'll make it not only faster but better on battery. i have ubuntu on a virtual machine on my mac and i use opera in that. i like it.

IE9 for Windows, Firefox for Mac

Chrome uses more energy since it needs a bit more memory. IE9 has been rated the most battery efficient on Windows. Take it as you will.
