I needed to get a 2tb HDD a few days ago when they were around £55, now they are £80! and i've heard that there set to get even more expensive!

Did anyone else notice that HDD prices have just skyrocketed?

I have been reading that the Thailand floods are to do with it.

Does anyone know how long this effect in pricing might go on for, i have heard 6 months or so and if any other components might be effected with prices rising so sharply?

the 2TB's were just getting into a good price range!

Update, apparently the problem is the supply chain of moters that go into HDD that is effected.

I think it is because of SSD's , cause if your'e buying a new computer you will probably want it with SSD cause to be honest who doesn't choose speed over capacity, and then is logically to buy HDD because of capacity. I think that is the reason price climbed up. Just my opinion, correct me if i'm wrong.

The most common SSD setup is

1x 120GB or higher SSD 1x 1-2TB hard drive

Windows is inatalled on the SSD.

Large but non IO intensive programs are installed on the HDD

Documents and music and pictures and as much other data as possible is stored on the HDD

Games, and other programs such as video editors, photo shop and any IO intensive program is installed on the SSD

No virtual memory/ pagefile is stored on the SSD, instead it is put on the HDD.

If you have a ssd, make 100% sure you keep regular backups of it and don't have a single copy stored only on a SSD if you are not willing to loose the file.

SSD's have limited write cycles and are more prone to firmware issues so the risk of loosing your data is higher than on a HDD (the performance boost more than makes up for it.
