I'm building my own pc. It may be obvious, but do i buy sin7 professional "(for system builders only)" or just regular win7 professional? The system builders version seems to be cheaper on amazon. What's the difference?

As an end consumer you cannot get a legal license the for system builders unless you plan to build the system for resale.

Microsoft isn't actually sure what their policy is regarding personal system builders buying OEM licenses. Up until very recently, the support documents stated that it was perfectly fine to use an OEM license on your computer. To this day, Microsoft will respond with official support documents saying it is okay, even though the license does not specify it.

The OEM License is a complete mess at Microsoft, but you should be perfectly fine using it for your system. The only real drawback is that you can't contact Microsoft support for problems with Windows, since you are suppose to do all of the support yourself as a system builder.

do you think it's worth paying the extra just to stay safe and for the support or not?

I see no reason not to. It's basically a technicality that Microsoft isn't even sure about themselves, nor is it enforced at all. Personally I have never used Microsoft Support for any problem. I always turn to Google for that.

Out of curiosity, are you a student of some kind. If you are, you can get Windows for even cheaper.
