I was hoping to get some thoughts from the community regarding internet speeds and what they would recommend. As the electric power board in my area now offers internet that is competing with the cable company (Comcast). The electric power board lines are fiber optic and last I heard Comcast lines were a mix where its a digital connection till they run it your house then they convert it to an analog signal or something. When looking at the packages for just internet the cheapest the power board currently offers is around $58 and it is 30 Mbps symmetrical (30Mbps upload and 30Mbps download). Comcast's competing internet package is around $53 and is 50Mbps download 10Mbps upload.

So my question is does upload speed really matter or is download speed the only thing I should be concerned with? Both companies in the fine print say "up to" for both the download and upload speed and Comcast on most of their internet packages usually use the term "with power boost".

As for what the internet will be used for. I am a gamer and do some uploading of files to YouTube and Facebook ect. I do not currently serve as server for games online only for local file transfers on the home network.

100% depends on what you do on the internet.

If you are uploading games to YouTube get as high speed upload rate as you can.
