Here are some of mine
Looks online at the ads for info on the items...
Get the local Thanksgiving newspaper for referencing.
Some stores may have the item online at the same price. (example: officemax)
Plan on which stores are your top priority to get (ex. Doorbusters, limited quantity, etc.)
Go to a city with fewer population for a beter chance to get the item you want and have shorter lines(based on my experience when shopping around San Francisco and other cities)

The only one I have is to not go as soon as stores open. No use in getting trampled and needing to go to the hospital or die. All I had to deal with when I got my 32" TV last year was deal with some long lines and noise in Best Buy. I went in the middle of the afternoon.

Avoiding big box stores
Look at what has actually been discounted and not simply doing the standard sale trick
A item with a MSRP of $129 but usually sells for $69.99 and a store does a major sale where they discount the item from the "normal" price of $129, down to $69.99
(Many black friday sales are like this in order to take advantage of the fact that mane people assume that just because it is black friday, everything will be cheaper and are thus more likely to rush to a store and buy a ton of stuff with out properly thinking it through.
