College degree to work for Apple?

Please read this before you decide to answer or comment.

I would like to start off by saying that I do plan to attend college with no doubt, (graphic user interface design), but I was wondering if a college degree was actually required to do this kind of job. I was looking at Apple to be an interface designer (Link to job: http://jobs.apple.com/index.ajs?BID=1&method=mExternal.showJob&RID=77165&CurrentPage=1) and it seems they don't require you to have a college degree to apply or work there, just that you need to be good and have 5+ years of experience. I did check other jobs to see if Apple just didn't list degrees in their requirements, but they do for most of them. I am just curious. I also would like some insight if other jobs in graphic design are like this.

I really don't think so, you seem very qualified for the position. Go ahead and send a Resume and see what they say.

as a rule, if you don't have the advantage of showing your degree, then you must have something unique, something "worthwhile" to present like a talent to prove then you are good to go. (remember that bill gates didn't finish his studies too)

Keep in mind that landing the job is ALWAYS A COMPETITION, chances are you'll find someone else applying for that Job and has a College degree. Now don't fear, but learn to use your assets instead. :)

The only thing that I can see that might hold you back is the lack of expierence. I know over here, england, someone with just a couple years of expierence is generally preferred over people who have spent 3/4 years in university. eExpierence seems to count for alot atm.

GUI development basically requires a degree in computer science. Any decent school with a decent CS program will offer a course on "human computer interaction" as I have known it to be called before, which is just a way of saying how to make a GUI user friendly.

Also, just because it does not say you don't need a degree, does not mean you don't. You apply for McDonalds, they don't necessarily ask if you know how to count change if you work registers. You also are not necessarily told that you should not jump off an overpass.

So if making GUIs what you want to do, then I would look at computer science.
