Hi, I have a windows 7 professional and im a heavy gamer, But I cant play New games that is coming out (Saints row the third, BF3 ect) and as im playing these games the HDD disconnects, I can tell it does this by the fact Itunes and Steam both crash at the same time which is located on the Same HDD,

Would this be a Issue with the HDD or the motherboard?

thanks in advanced -DR nibbles-

try Ashampoo HDD control it's a trial but should show you the health of your hard drive by reading the S.M.A.R.T status/logs in the hard drive to show you if the hard drive is failing.

if you find that the hard drive is failing it should be covered under the warranty for your computer.

I have a 2TB WD passport with the same disconnect/ reconnect issue, (connecting to a new ASUS laptop). I found hat it stopped disconnecting when I moved it from the USB3.0 port to a slower USB port. I suspect it is power related but this fix worked. The drive no longer disconnects when I'm downloading or playing etc although I have to put up with a modest loss of speed.
