I am looking to run a couple of live video/audio streams, but I would like to use my own servers. Flash Streaming Server is far too expensive, and I'd prefer not to use Microsoft Expression Encoder as I don't want to rely on people having silverlight in order to watch.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a piece of software I could use for this.
It can be either Windows or Unix (not mac!), but it needs to run on a server separately from the PC I have my sources connected to, so I only have to upload the live stream once, and clients thereafter download it from the server.
Any help is much appreciated!

I think VLC has streaming built into it, though I have never gotten it to actually work, but if you can get it to stream to a file on an Apache server, then you should be pretty good to go ;) (You can use HTML5 or Flash to play it back)
