I was considering switching to an SSD drive for My MacBook Pro and wapping out the old one. But I like the 500GB hard drive in my MacBook pro. If I got an SSD, I would have to deal with only 320GB at most. IS it worth getting a lesser volume hard drive if it will make your computer faster. [I remember Chris Pirillo installing an SSD HD on his MacBook Pro and it was exponentially faster.] I'm running Lion and the speed boost would be welcomed. |

I would upgrade to an SSD in my 15" MBP in a hear beat..... problem is, it voids the entire Apple Care Warranty. I'm not going to throw away $300 and a guaranteed warranty for an SSD. |

Na.. upgrading to an SSD will undeniably give it a boost, but the rest of the hardware is so outdated that it will severely bottleneck the system. And you can't fit more than one harddrive in there so space is really a problem in MBPs. I'd build a good custom system and shove an SSD in there instead. You will require at least a 2600K/1100T BE with 16000 RAM and SATA3. If you have a mediocre system like an MBP then it's just not worth putting such a powerful component in it, even the most powerful MBPs are not nearly enough to make proper use of it. |
