we can buy MASSIVE 2TB Hard drives, but do we really need them? 1TB= 1024GB!!! |
|
Yes, we do! 20 years ago we had Hard-Disks with 512MB, and then they sayd: Do we really need 2GB??? Well now, 1 good game already takes up 2GB, so we do need even bigger hard-drives. I did not know a Game could take up to 6-9 GBs TF2 is about 8GB. Their sizes are going to continue to rise. I wonder what Crysis 2's size is...

Absolutely. Between my desktop, laptop and external drives I have about 8tb of storage. 3 of that is used for back and the rest is used to store files, programs, etc. I'm down to only 50gb or so left on my laptop (out of 500gb). I have a bit more room on my desktop, but I take lots of photos (and I shoot in RAW, so my images are 25mb each) and record 1080p video, so I need storage space for that. I probably have about 1.5tb left on my desktop and maybe another 500gb available externally. After a few more years I could see needing more space. |

i do. i have a lot of media content on my drives, and ive used almost 500 gigs already |

Depends on what you use your computer for. Media and gaming would be a good point. And if you're the sort of person that rips his games into a *.iso or something, then you're going to need space, and lots of it too. I rip my games into iso files just in case anything happens to my CD's. Same also goes for music, video, etc.... |

Uh, out of all those hundreds of GB of stored movies, anime and the like, how much of it do you watch again, over and over? I know quite a few people (clients) who have filled up several massive drives with things like movies and tv episodes, but all those huge files just sit there. Many people fill their drives up like that just so they can HAVE the stuff. They don't need it, they don't use it and it's wasting power to run storage drives with data you just don't use. And don't tell me that there aren't people who do that. I see it all the time. It's more of a "he who dies with the most, wins" kind of thing. |

I could use that much but I'm a pack rat and I have a lot of movie files on my computer |
|
Well if your a media junkie, well you need lots of space. Then they are also for backup. Lets say you have a Drobo. You throw in some 2TB drives in RAID 1 and you have a massive file server for your home. |
|
Yes, over time my storage has grown to 3 x 1TB drives in my main desktop machine, plus a server with 2 x 1TB and 1 x 2TB. I collect many different versions of Minesweeper. |
most people don't need them if you do a lot of video and pictures you may need it like if you make as much videos as Chris Pirillo you would need it
1Tb = 128GB.
1TB, however, = 1024GB. Get it right, people!
