Need help with uploading a background to my YouTube Channel

I have a YouTube channel of course and I always have this problem with uploading a background to my channel. For some reason the picture usually comes out to blurry, small or large and I need some help on why the picture uploads like that! I am using paint.net but for some reason my picture always uploads on my YouTube channel all messed up. When I go to view it in Windows Picture Viewer it shows up fine but when I upload it to YouTube as my background it turns out crappy.

What resolution should I make my background for the new new YouTube channel layout also called Cosmic Panda?

In what format are you trying to upload the image? How big is your background? Is it a pattern or just a picture or graphic of something. Try some of these http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=youtube+channel+background
