Hello, I am 17 and i have just started to take driving lessons and will soon hope to pass my test here in the UK and then get a car for use to and from college (and if i can gen an apprentice job then to work as well as college one day a week) and some driving for social use (but very very little) and looking for some recommendations for good car for cheap insurance that would not look out of place at college here in the UK. Thanks |

I had a vw polo and my brother has a fiat punto, both of which were relatively cheap to insure. Mates of mine that also got cars around 17-18 got fiesta's, micra's and corsa's. Other options could be citroen C1/C3, toyota aygo etc - basically anything small with a 1.0-1.2 litre engine. In terms of actual insurance, Social Domestic and Pleasure (SDP) is the cheapest band, add in business and it gets more expensive. Petrol's tend to be cheaper than diesel's and and manuals cheaper than automatics (based on my experience anyway). Third party fire and theft tended to be cheapest for me as well (for some reason this seemed to cost less than straight third party) although depending on the car you get you may decide it's worth the extra for fully comprehensive as, if anything does go wrong, at least you won't have to pay for the repairs. For companies: Elephant, Admiral and (if they haven't gone into administration) Quinn Direct have provided my cheapest quotes. It's worth phoning them as well, I knocked another £50 off my Admiral quote by phoning them after getting a price comparison website quote. |
