Why do you think/know that it is good to be open-minded?

This question originated from a book I am currently reading. It talks about life after death in different religions and analyzes faith. I am Catholic. Why do you think that this book will be good for me? I think I will benefit. It is a "journey to eternity" type of book.

For me being open minded is good for a whole lot of reasons. I like to be open minded because I feel less stressed because I dont have "Tunnel vision" and focus on the useless things. I tend to be less judgemental towards people and accept people for who they are. Futhermore I think if being open minded leads to be less racist and accept other religions and believes. I guess is can change one self.
