Simple enough. My desktop machine currently has a spare PCI slot available for whatever I may want to put in it. The question is, just what SHOULD I put in the slot? I have weighed a few options: USB 2.0 expansion card (more ports for my ipod cable, etc) Internal cooling fan (more airflow, but I have heard those things are usually worthless, and this port is RIGHT below my power supply and it's 120mm fan) Wireless networking card (useless, as I use a wired network setup here in my room) ...and really, that is all I have thought about. This is my main machine, on which I do.. well, virtually everything. I have a USB3 Expansion card in one of my PCIe slots, the other PCIe has (almost as a joke) a 56k modem installed, and the 16x slot is of course occupied by my video card. I know what some would say: ditch the 56k modem and install another USB3 card. Problem is, this slot is right above the video card... so I need the airflow, and I don't remove the modem due to keeping the case airflow proper. So, yeah, that's the situation. Just what can I use this card slot for that would actually be worthwhile? Expansion is expansion, even if it is the classic standard PCI slot, no? |

PCI sound card You can get a audigy 2 zs for really cheap and it will sound better than any of the standard onboard sound cards |
