I personally think MS charges way to much for a single licence of Windows 7. If they want to charge that much I think they should at least let people use it on multiple computers. What do you think? I also think if they lowered the price less people would feel the need to pirate widows.

I don't think that Windows is over priced. Microsoft needs to make a living also. I have no problem giving Microsoft money for the products that they make, I want them and I am willing to buy them at their prices. If you cannot afford it then you don't need it, find something that is free or cheaper, don't steal it.

People pirate software costing a few pounds or dollars so while it may reduce the amount it will never prevent it because some people simply object to having to pay.
Take the example of the Humble Indie Bundle whereby you could for 5 games pay whatever you wanted literally with a user-specified amount going to charity. A not insignificant number paid as little as 1 cent for them which was actually making them a loss. Even with the option of paying just 1 cent for about $50 worth of games it still saw some torrenting them.

well i am lucky tho, my school gives out free copies of various windows software. But only because i am a computer science student. so the price for windows has never been a problem for, and considering most of my life i bought stock OEM machines so it was never an issue.

For the home versions, not really. OS X used to cost $130 and I think Windows 7 Home Premium does now, so they're fine on that. The Ultimate and Professional versions are a little overpriced I think. Apple can get away with 2 versions of their OS. Microsoft shouldn't really need 4 of them.

I think its way over priced look at how much OS X cost and all it can do ( sure u cant install it on a normal PC legally ) . and lets not start with the free OS it does way more and its free . so in MHO Windows is to expensive for the average person.

I would price retail copies something like this. Than they could be a little cheaper based on the retail shop.
Home - $99
Professional - $149
Ultimate - $199
Have to think about OEM pricing.
They sell at their current prices so they are not too worried about it. I do wonder how many more would upgrade or do so faster if the basic edition was cheaper.
The idea of the basic retail version of Windows being one hundred makes it easier than paying almost two hundred dollars.

We can debate about what price should windows have, but after all that is microsoft's decision. Personally for me, it is not overpriced cause i use him on daily basis and have wide program support. I use Ubuntu too but it doesn't have all things that i need so i cannot switch to him completely.
Windows price may be lower but pirates are pirates and they will never stop "cracking stuff"
