When I graduate this year and continue my studies in university I want to get myself a laptop that's portable. I want to go for Mac because I currently own and iPhone and owned a MacbookPro in the past and I don't mind spending some extra money on it.

I'm currently owning a desktop pc (Windows) and a laptop (fairly new one but not an excellent choice to keep moving the thing)

So I wen't to my local Apple re-seller with the question if I had to go with the Air or the Pro when it comes to it.

He told me that if I owned a desktop or have some sort of main computer then I would be better of with the Air, if I didn't own a desktop and wanted a laptop for main usage that I would be better of with the Pro version.

Now the thing is I will be using this laptop every day 4-5hrs+ so even though I have a main computer I would spend way more time on the laptop then I would on my computer, to be honest I don't think I will be using my computer anymore since then.

Would I then be better of with the Pro version because of the specs? Or the Air version because of its portability, battery life and design?

Forgot to mention that I will be going 13", the re-seller told me that 80% of the sales of macs is the Macbook Pro 13"

Now for my studies I don't think I would use programs that would require high CPU etc (Software and network management(involves programming etc))

Do you guys have any advice for me on this case?

Forgot to mention that I would probably buy it July/August

I'd get the Air if I were you. The Air is kind of what the future of computers is going to be and if you don't need the extra power of the Pro then that's just another reason to go with the Air.

The air is more portable then the pro. You can take the Air more places then a pro. I mean you can take a pro anywhere because it's a laptop but it's a pain to bring a Macbook Pro places because it's bigger and heavier. The air also is easier to store in a backpack or a case and bring it places to quickly take it out and use it.

How much will you use it while on battery and what kinds of tasks will you be doing? I've read that light usage will give 7 hours of battery life, but I'd you start doing intensive tasks it will decrease a lot (as much as to 2 hours). If you won't need it for much more than note taking and web browsing while on battery, it would work fine.

neither, keep your pc and install the Linux Ubuntu System, it is just like a Mac with displays and everything, but its free and the apps are free, and you can do so much more.i guarantee it! it works great on any pc, dont waste your money on a mac. Adobe products arent even copyrighted for Apple, so they really suck to work with, trust me, i know! you are better off with an HP with Ubuntu installed onto it

Sheesh, Linux isn't for everyone. I have the Adobe CS5 Production Premium Suite on my 2009 MacBook Pro, and it runs great. Loads of professionals use Adobe apps on Macs, it's a legitimate platform, just accept it. And for some people, it's worth the money.

I am quite sure that I'm going back to MAC because everything I need to use is avaliable for the MAC.

At this point I'm thinking of getting an Air, since it has the same processor (i5) as the Pro 13" except it's a bit faster (Air 1,7ghz and pro 2,4ghz) but the flash storage makes the Air double as fast. (I don't need a big hard drive, I can live with 128gb flash drive + I have an external drive)

Any idea on when the new Air launches? Would it be this yeard?

Thanks in advance!

In my personal opinion, the main difference in the Air and the Pro at the same size is the hard drive space. but, since you said you can live with it get the Air. Seems like you are swaying that way anyway.

I have one and love it! Go for it!

i heard from many people tha tthe air isnt very good with designing programs like garage band and adobe products, you would need a bigger computer and better possessor for that, but that is what i heard, im not even close to having the hots for apple products even though they are nice in only a few ways

There were a couple of things for me that ultimately lead me to getting the Pro. First the screen size. After that, ethernet ports, the Air doesn't have one and I needed one for college since the wifi SUCKED BIG TIME!!! Also a SuperDrive.

If you need any of those, reconsider the Air.
