I recently decided to switch to getting my music the normal legitemit way so I am starting off with a pretty small collection (around a thousand songs). I decided since I am building from the ground up I will have a chance to work on playlists and other stuff I normally neglected when I had a large library. That being said I am now decideing it is time to rate all of the songs in my library as I listen to them. I haven't been able to justify giving a song one or two stars, because if I rate it so low, why is it there. That being said, Is there any thing special you use the ratings system for?

Also do you know any cool tricks when it comes to thinks like group artist or anything like that. Always debated if I should go the extra mile and use the composer section to list the song writers or something. I'd love to know how all of you keep your itunes in order.

Why would you waste your time rating all your songs? I personally do not see the point in that. I let iTunes do most of the work for me aside from making my play-lists and such. I say if you're getting your music the legal way, only buy songs you like. Don't go wasting your money on full albums that you like a couple songs from. Why would you use the composer section? that seems pointless to me as well.

Theres actually a few local stores that sell used albums really cheap, so in some cases i benifet to buy the full album there. For example for the group poison i like the songs "Nothing But A Good Time" "Talk Dirty To Me" "Unskinny Bop" "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" "I won't forget you" "Look what the cat dragged in" "I want Action" "Your mamma don't dance" and "something to believe in" Individually those songs would run me 9 bucks. I picked up a used copy of one of their greatest hits sets for 3 bucks. Saved quite a bit there.

Even with the school of rock soundtrack, theres 17 tracks but 8 songs i really like. getting that for 3.99 is another way of saving a few bucks.

Oh I understand. Yeah see I thought you meant you were buying ALL your albums/songs from iTunes. Very good idea you got there.

I don't trust ratings systems, so I just use Last.fm and buy the songs from there that I enjoyed

I don't mean the ones from the reviews in the iTunes store, I mean the ratings you can set yourself in the software itself.
