How well do you guys think Windows 8 will compare to Mac OS X Lion? These two are obviously completely different operating systems, but it is also obvious that Windows 8 will be a part of far more computers than OS X Lion because of Microsoft's deal with hardware manufacturers. Do you think Windows 8 will be easier to use than Lion, or do you think it'll be a UI flop? Sum up how you think these two operating systems will compare to each other.

Unfortunately, yes. I think that Lion implemented an annoying amount of iOS. Windows 8 is doing that but more by changing the Start menu. I've not used the Developer Preview, so I don't know for sure whether I like it or not, but I'm betting on not. I'll still probably upgrade for two reasons: If there's a registry tweak to turn off Metro, it'll probably be in control panel too (if not, I'll use the tweak). Second, since the operating system will be designed for lesser systems, my regular computer should run it great. It would probably be like when Vista machines upgraded to 7: stability and performance shot up.

I have a feeling that I'll upgrade because I have an HP Touchsmart PC, so maybe the Metro UI would be nice on that kind of computer. But then again, I don't like the idea of Windows turning into Windows Phone. There needs to be a line between mobile computing and desktop computing. They may be making it with tablets mainly in mind, but still, it's not cool.

Well, there's Metro UI, which is the key difference, and on a desktop/laptop pc, I hate it. However, with the changing of one registry value, it's gone, turning Windows 8 into a slightly updated Windows 7 with slight visual alterations. But then, at the price Microsoft charge, this kind of defeats the objective of a whole new Operating System.

They better not charge more than $50 for that POS! If Microsoft keeps up with their $200 price point for Windows, well, might as well say goodbye to them! Which in my opinion is a good thing.

There's plenty of people that buy a new computer yearly or every couple years because they want to stay up to date on hardware and or software. If Microsoft's OS sales to regular consumers go down then hardware manufacturers will still buy the OS to put on their new computers. Microsoft will never lose much ground with Windows.
