Ordering electronics from USA to UK. Taxes/Customs?

Hey

im looking at ordering some new custom in ear monitors and I've found a great place in america to go to (a lot cheaper than in the UK and a more reputable company).

Im just a bit worried about what will happen at customs when 300 pound headphones pass through. i seem to remember someone telling me that shipping electronics over a certain price can instigate large taxes or something similar

Anyone had experience in this field that could help me out at all?
