Hey everyone,

I have a 120GB SSD and a 2TB HDD. While installing Windows 8 Developer Preview, the installer crashed, and the computer restarted. I have tried booting into Linux Live DVDs, Windows Installers (7 and 8 DP) and even Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and none of the Operating Systems are detecting the hard drive. I've used GParted a number of times to 'make a new partition map' for the drive, but it still doesn't show up. Anyone know what the heck is going on? My computer has been unusable for 3 days now (the second HDD is formated in GPT, so I can't install Windows on it). Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jack Fetter.

Okay is your computer a tour or a desktop type computer. Go into the BIOS and take a look to see if the drives arebeing able to be seen in the bios itself. Is the computer that your using a Brand name computer or a clone computer.

The SSD can't be seen in the BIOS, and this is a Custom PC, not Brand Name.

Okay two things I would do in this case. Make sure that the power is off. And unplugged from the power supply. Open up the case itself. Then check the power cable that leads from the power supply to the SSD drive. Make sure that it is connected properly to it and the same thing for the ribbon cable for the SSD drive as well that connects it to the motherboard. Check both ends to make sure that it is firmly in place. Since either one of those two are not properly connected to the drive. Will not make it show up on the bios itself. Give that a try and see what happens.

I tried that, and it was already in place. But I was thinking: it's showing up in GParted, so it was defiantly plugged in before.

Have you tried wiping the drive clean if it shows up in Gparted? Or have you tried any other disk partitioner to see if it shows up there. Usually SSD or any regular hard drive are suppose to show up in the BIOS itself as being able to be detected from the motherboard when they are properly connected to it. Both power and cable for reading and writing. Since SSD connectors are only going to work one way. It should see it properly. Or the cable might be broken inside of it. Which still may lead to it not being found. Because if it is not seeing it in the motherboard bios. Usually means that there is a problem with the connection between the two. Either no power going to the SSD. Or the data cable is not properly connected or the cable is broken usually. Seemsrather odd that it is not showing up as it should. It might also be a defective SSD itself. How long have you had the SSD in the computer itself.

I've tried every OS imaginable (including the BIOS), and it only appears in GParted. I've wiped the drive several times in GParted using 'Create Partition Map', but it still isn't showing up. I've had the SSD since December. Since it shows up in GParted, it shouldn't be an issue elsewhere, right?

From what I've read you might want to RMA the drive with your retailer, it will most likley be the simplest way and you'll receive a new on that you know will work.

make it simple guys. if none of the above software is seeing it other than gparted then it is most likely dead. first check the bios, second use a different power connector, third use a different data cable. as for rma'ing it you'll have to do that through the manufacturer.

We've gone through that part already I had mentioned above doing that.
