Why is the Facebook app slower than the website?

I'm on my iPhone and the Facebook app loads slower and goes slower than the website considerably. Does anyone know why?

BTW: I have an iPhone 3G, jailbroken with 4.2.1 firmware, unlocked for T-Mobile.

Facebook's main point of usage is most likely through the desktop version of their website. Therefore, they are going to put more developers into enhancing the speed of that rather than getting mobile apps to speed up. It's the unfortunate truth.
