Simple question: How do you recover files from an emptied trash bin on a mac? Preferably for free!

Stellar Phoenix Macintosh Data Recovery has a free trail you can use for 3 days. I'd suggest STOP using your mac immediately until you've recovered what you need.

Or, if you have Time Machine enabled, you can always recover the files that way.
