a better question would be has anybody found an android phone without battery problems.

(i love my android phone even with its need for what seems like constant chargeing)

Let's hope that 2.2 solves the power drain problem...

The most valuable advice that I can give you, particularly if you have the Moto Droid, is to purchase the carstand/charger and the nightstand/charger that Motorola has for sale (approximately $20-40 retail). These items, when placed strategically throughout your home, car, and work environments can virtually eliminate battery problems that these phones are prone to during heavy use. The rapid charge features that are available with these accessories really come in handy and make the phones much more resilient throughout the day. Of course, you could also purchase additional external batteries to help you to get through the day, but this has always seems to be cumbersome to me.

Thoughts?

Again, the hope is that Andriod 2.2 will correct many of the power and even some speed issues but that remains to be seen. :-(

My android phone's battery life was very low. People advised me to shut off all wireless connections. Turn on your wireless connections when needed.

Wireless connections do seem to drain the power out of Android machines much more so than their iPhone counterparts. Your solution is certainly one that works but not one that I particularly like because it disables a really nice feature of the phone. Hopefully the pending upgrade to Android 2.2 will fix this problem as it simply makes no sense why a wireless connection NEEDS to be resource intensive.

Another good way to improve life is to condition you battery, it will do wonders with very little effort on your part.

My My-touch 3g has a terrible lifespan. Get yourself a power control widget witch comes default on droid I think. Then turn everything off GPS Bluetooth WiFi Light. Or just put your phone on airplane mode.

The power control widget is DEFINITELY a recommended step...still can't take the turn everything off step yet...seems self defeating.

Yes, That is what we get for wanting a phone to be cool, cute, awesome, multitasking, multitouch and small with a big screen! Multitasking + normal/any battery = dead battery = DUH

Buy a bigger battery, that tends to help quite a bit, other than that: try to minimize how many apps are open at once, dim the display as much as possible, turn off Wifi, 3G, and bluetooth when you don't need them. Little things like that will help, in apps like the web browser disable things like plugins. If you use it to listen to music, use a compressed codec like mp3 or aac over uncompressed lossless like AAC or Flac.. larger bit rates mean more data in the buffer and more data to process, this can cause the battery life to drop... On devices like the iPod, using aac over AIFF adds about 2 more hours to audio playback (with the screen turned off).

My HTC Evo is a battery joke. It lasts 4 hours if I don't use it at all. If I use it, maybe 2 hours.

OMG that is TERRIBLE! Has it always been that way? Have you tried shutting down some background apps?

I have a Moto Droid, and it usually lasts 12-15 hours a day. I have Advanced Task Killer, which I use to kill any applications I don't want running. I also turn of Wifi when I'm not at my house, which helps.

I have an app that detects when I don't need certain things running, which lengthens my battery life. That being said, the reason I downloaded it is because it has such a short life. When I'm on the go, I can't afford to have my battery die. Chris P. gave me a rechargeable battery extender with various USB to mobile device interchangeable plugs (we have yet to do a review), which essentially works like a Richard Solo Charger for iPhone, and it works great (gives me approximately 4 hours more time, doesn't require being plugged into AC/DC wall outlet). We have yet to do a review on it, but it works.

The product is a universal Powerpak by Technocel, on the website, $49.99.
