Will the use of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar ever overtake our use of fossil fuels?

The term "fossil fuels" is probably a misnomer.
They call petroleum a fossil fuel because the theory was that rotting dinosaurs millions of years ago somehow compressed in some geologic process to create oil. This theory is incredibly unlikely and fails to explain how oil fields tapped dry were miraculously producing just a few years later.
Oil is produced through geologic processes in the earth, and therefore is a "renewable energy source".

Yes of course it will, nonrenewable energy will eventually be depleted. Some countries are trying to get rid of them, namely Scandinavia, Germany, France and Switzerland. They all got plans to become nonusers of fossil fuels by 2030 and I do hope that the US and China go the same way.
