In the news (when I actually watch it) I always seem to see something about killings of people of certain race or in a more recent example, the moron who leads North Korea threatening to burn South Korea to ashes. For that example, it looks like a new version of Hitler. And (This is slightly controversial) but George Zimmerman got release from prison despite all the evidence against him. But racially the world is starting to collapse in terms of peace between groups. I'd like to hear your opinions. What do you think of current events? Is history repeating itself? What is the future of all this? Additionally, I asked my history teacher, he agrees with some current events history is repeating itself. So just wondering what you guys thought.

Actually, we have no evidence either way when it comes to Zimmerman right now, media just presented things to create a firestorm. There was, whether you choose to admit it or not, all sorts of proof all over the internet of clever editing from "news" sources like CNN or MSLSD.... I mean MSNBC. And before you go any further, ask yourself this "Who is Matthew Owens?" Oops, media objective complete. Firestorm achieved.

History repeats it's self every day.

New life is made as old dies away. But life is also taken away.

Religion sparks the fuse and some want to cause death because they think that they are right.

It repeats and grows.

Weapons improve and threats increases.

Religion does not always spark the fuse. The worst mass killings in history were committed in recent decades, as a direct result of atheism: Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot...

Did not say that it always does... Ps, Atheism is under the topic religion...

Good points.

Oh please! Atheism is under the topic religion, my patootie!

People spark the fuse just by being people. Conflict, prejudice and xenophobia are the defining characteristics of human beings. That's the history which repeats itself.

Would you rather be gassed to death or be blown up by explosives?

I'm pretty sure they're not the only choices! I can't say I'm looking forward to dying but being dead certainly has its advantages.

I agree with @Billy Aoki, we're alive. That's the most important thing.

Yes; Obama is following Lenin footsteps and Socialism did not work in Russia.

I mentioned not of Obama's term. He hasn't started a war, he hasn't killed innocents, he has tried to run this country, but ignorant people don't allow him to pass bills that could help the country. I'm talking of the idiots who would like the concept of the world burning at their command, to kill innocents because of their race, to bomb people because they had a different view on the beginning of this un-evolving rock floating through space! That's what I speak of.

What is it with Americans hate towards socialism? Socialism is NOT communism. Also Obama is by no means a socialist. If you compare him to the far-right religious fundamentalists such as the Republicans then he is certainly more left but he is not a socialist. Not by a long shot. Lenin was a communist, not a socialist! Also the communism experienced in Russia was not proper Marxism, it was a false attempt.

@josephLtech He hasn't killed innocents? Really? He extended the war. Adjust your blinders liberal.

@Fish What is the difference between them exactly?

(Apr 25 '12 at 00:28) Drmgiver Drmgiver's gravatar image

Socialism didn't work in Russia, yet Canada is doing well with that idea.

The great 'peace' which the founding of the United Nations and post World War horror is supposed to have brought is and always has been an illusion. There is no new collapse 'racially'. All human groups, whether by race, class, intelligence or any other label define themselves by what they are not. We all need someone to hate no matter how enlightened, peaceful, tolerant or irenic we imagine ourselves to be. Conflict is therefore a matter of fact, be it past present or future.

If you want a brilliant, forensic analysis of the world today you could do a lot worse than read Augustine's analysis of the world in the 5th Century in "The City Of God". Irrespective of the religious content nobody provides a better examination of the human condition and the tangle of motivations which make the constant repetition of history and the sempiternal dysfunction of the human race both inevitable and inescapable. Only the names change and there is nothing new under the sun!

This is why we study history in school...to learn from past errors of others, and try not to repeat the blunders undergone before us. But greed, whether it's power or money, will almost always overpower even the most level headed people and turn them into an evil version of what they could have been.

What it really takes, is for everyone in this world to simply behave themselves and avoid things that are illegal or immortal (by common sense standards, not by what each culture considers moral), and treat others with some respect, kindness and understanding of their situation. It's much easier to be nice to others, than irritate or be rude to them.

" It's much easier to be nice to others, than irritate or be rude to them."

I'm far from sure that's true but even if it is, it's a whole lot less fun!

Be less concerned with what North Korea might do to a few million people, and more concerned with what the U.S. is about to do to the entire world.

Around WW1, inflation devalued the currency in Germany to such an extent that people burned it to heat their homes. In 1991, the USSR fell due to their economic disaster as brought upon by inflation. We are now seeing the early effects with the rise in prices of groceries, gas, and houses. The housing bubble crash of 2008 should have taught us the lesson, but the decision makers never learn.

All empires crumble; there are no exceptions. The solution is simply not to be an empire. When we fall, we'll take the whole world down with us.
