Okay, so in my current setup I have an ATI Radeon HD 5570 and I'm running two monitors both at a resolution of 1920x1080. I've had this setup for a little over a year and have never had a problem with it. I used to do work in Adobe After Effects and Photoshop but have since stopped using After Effects. I still use Photoshop on a daily basis. Now I have never had a problem with this but a couple of days ago I upgraded my memory in my system from 4GB to 12GB. Now since then, when I have been in Photoshop, my displays have blacked out three times and when they come back, Photoshop has crashed and I have a notification from the ATI Catalyst Control Center saying that the driver stopped responding but has since recovered, or something along those lines. Could anyone tell me the problem I am faced with and how to fix it? Thanks. |

I recommend running a memtest on the system http://www.memtest.org/#downiso unstable memory can still run certain programs stably. The issue with unstable components (CPU's and RAM), is that the stability depends on the processing task and the memory load that photoshop does may stress the memory in a way that allows the stability issue to be noticed. Also post your CPU model and motherboard model Some systems have limitations, eg the XMP profile of the memory allowing use of 2000MHz with 2 sticks of memory, but probably only up to 1600MHz with 4 sticks of memory I'm running with a Foxconn P55a motherboard and an Intel Core i5 650 @3.20GHz. try heading into the bios and manually specifying the factory timings for the memory, then set the speed to 1066, then test if the issue still happens with photoshop |

Try reverting back to the original 4GB of ram. If the problem goes away, then I say bad RAM and nothing else. If it persists, try taking out the GPU and use the integrated graphics if your motherboard has one. |
