With all this talk about apple having 3x as much market share than android, it has me wondering if android will ever catch up. Being that mostly all new phones that arent blackberry or apple seem to be running android, it seems like its only a matter of time before we see the android OS catch up and take over. |

At this point, there are still more iPhones being sold than the combined phones running Android. Last quarter Apple sold 8.4 million, a 112% increase from the same quarter last year and having their best quarter overall in company history. This is bad for Google, because that quarter is always the worse one for Apple, so the next one has a great chance of being even better. Apple also has patents on a new cheaper form factor dubbed the iPhone nano, which could pop up at any time (if it ever does ). If Google overhauled the development of Android and really cleaned up the OS, made it less technical, and gave it a real finished product like feel, then I could see it really compete against the iPhone and possibly surpass it. |

A BIG NO! Android is good but seriously the iPhone OS is brilliant nothing can beat it. |

The answer doesn't matter much, Google has a hell of a lot more resources, so there's is most likely to become the best. But it won't be easy, or very soon and if an Android phone knocks the Iphone off its Pedestal, then Apple will have no choice but to play catch-up, therefore creating more competition and making both phones better, in hopes being best. |

I think Android will take over Iphone because there are so many Android devices out there and the mobile phone companies like HTC and Motorolla will continue to make more. Also, there are a lot of Android devices at different prices for example there is the HTC Evo 4G at the high end of the market and there is the HTC Tattoo for anyone on a budget. |

I'm not sure if Android will ever have more market share then apple but it definitely wont happen soon. Unfortunately Android is missing a "gimmick" for lack of a better word. Android needs to have something new, different, and exclusive if it wants out sell apple. Android needs to be able to attracted new users who have never used a smart phone and those are using a iPhone. |

Anything is possible. And android probably will increase in market share, so long as the Iphone stays on AT&T. |

Android has had a higher market share then Apple. On May 10th: "Android OS managed to crawl up to second place in the US smartphone market. According to market research firm NPD, Apple’s iPhone OS has managed to slip to third, coming in at 21%, with Google coming in second at 28%, and leading the game with RIM, staying at a strong 36%." |
