How come 2Gb flash drives are $10 but 40gb worth of DVD-RW's are $7?

Chips and IC are more expensive to produce than just a high density sheet of thin metal and plastic

Plus the data on the flash drives can be edited, the data on the DVD is literally burned into it and can't be changed.

it is an RW, meaning you can re write it, but only a few times.

The worth of an item is determined on how much people want something. People want a USB Flashdrive more than they want a load of CD's laying around. Flash drives are more convenient, smaller and less chance of being damaged. They also probably cost more to make.
