Why was this down voted? I know you dislike all that is Apple @pjob797 but that is pathetic. They asked our opinions based on our experiences with Mac. I answered honestly.

Because, I've been forced to use Macs in school, and I would never in a million years switch, and from my experience, I would highly not recommend using Macs.

And that is your opinion and you can answer with that like everyone else can.

I switched. Best computer purchase that I have ever made!

Great choice! What one did you get?

It really boils down to personal preference. If you want to get into the Mac world that's fantastic. It's a great os with many nice features. I have a macbook white unibody 2010. It works like a charm. If you want to stay with PC that's fine too. Both are great in their own ways. But as said before, I think it boils down to preference. Personally, I like my mac better. I got used to all the multi touch gestures and certain layouts and such. I just have a hard time with PCs now.

i have used my uncles mac before and i found it really easy to use,but only ever owned computers with windows because of the high prices, but now i can afford a mac -should i switch?

(Jun 03 '12 at 20:17) TechWiz3000 TechWiz3000's gravatar image

I am not advising against it. It's most certainly a great OS to have. Especially since OSX Mountain Lion is coming out which will add a lot of the features that iPhones have. (Messages, Game Center, and some other great features) If you can adapt to all the features it becomes a very intuitive experience.

(Jun 03 '12 at 20:38) josephLtech josephLtech's gravatar image

I have a Mac and a PC. I use my PC more than my Mac. As @josephLtech said it's all your preference. Don't let us pressure you into a Mac or a PC. It's your decision at the end, homie. You have the money.

I would never recommend to anyone to switch to a mac, I know many on this site will disagree.

You know, if you are going to vote down someones answer I feel it is only appropriate to explain why you feel they are wrong I do not feel that Macs are any better then PCs. This question is OBVIOUSLY a question that will get answers purely based on ones own taste. I never said that Macs are bad, and I never said anything bad about the people who used it.

All I said is I would never recommend a mac. That is my opinion. I also cannot get the software I need to use for my work and school on a mac.

(Jun 04 '12 at 21:32) trueb trueb's gravatar image

Mad over one down vote? Really? The reason I initially did that is because it wasn't exactly a helpful answer at all. I recommend people to PCs and Macs. It really depends on their needs. I don't cast down another OS. I say, well this one is good for this, and this one is good for that. I don't just rampantly say that Windows gets BSODs to everyone I meet...

(Jun 04 '12 at 23:41) josephLtech josephLtech's gravatar image

actually there where two down votes, and no one explained why. This is a common occurrence on this site in general, it is just kind of a nice thing to do. Macs are better at some things, but it is also kind of one of those things where if you have to ask if you need one, you don't need one, at least that is my take. Beyond that, it is personal preference (as you said) to which who am I to answer.

The question was "should I switch to Mac?" not "Why should I switch to mac" or "Should I switch to Mac, and why?" as I said it is a clearly question that is asking for opinions, I gave mine. The question did not say what he will be using it for.

You can do what I have done.

Go the hack route.

Allows you to buy more performance and have the Mac OS.

So long as it is not the other hack that is not permitted to talk about it is fine right Jackster1337.

Telling someone else to create a Hackintosh falls into the grey area of the site rules. The rules are that you are not to discuss how to create or set one of them up and as a general rule of thumb asking questions that directly involve these are generally prohibited. If the question indirectly mentions it, I believe it is generally allowed so long as it doesn't break the aforementioned rules.

Clearer rules would be nicer but we have to work how we interpret the rules that are already in place until such rules are clarified/made more specific.

You mentioned that you use Notepad++. I haven't really been able to find anything that compares in terms of functionality that's also free for the Mac. If you just use it for the syntax highlighting, there are some that should work OK but Notepad++ is really superior IMO (unless you are willing to pay to get one with more features)

I say, Yes. Get a Mac and keep your PC's. Having experience in more than one operating system is going to do no harm and will just give you more knowledge on different platforms.

Why must we say "Switch?" Do not "switch" just add more flavors to the mix.

Have you thought of building a Hackintosh? My PC recently died, and I was forced to buy a MacBook Pro sooner than I was planning. When I save up some more money, I'll probably get larger drives to support running Windows 8 on a separate partition.

We cant discuss Hackintosh here.

Do you play a lot of DirectX video games and use a lot of applications that thrive on the most recent .Net Frameworks? If not, you shouldn't find a Mac difficult to adjust to.

http://alternativeto.net/ Can help you find alternatives for programs you use in Windows for whatever OS you switch to.

And because I am an open-source enthusiast, I am going to ask if you've considered using a more user-friendly Linux distro such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint first. http://www.ubuntu.com/ http://linuxmint.com/

In that case, anything will probably appease you, so it is a matter of preference.

Perhaps you should also then think about potential future usage. Upgrading, maintaining, support, etc. Each OS has a cost for each of these, either it is Time or Money (or Freedom).

I'm still working in both mac and PC and I am fine working in both over here. It all depends on what you want to do on a Mac. They both have their good sides and bad sides to work with.
