For that price, a custom windows PC will dominate a used Mac Pro, even for video editing. I'd suggest getting a nice Sandy/Ivy Bridge rig, which will give you a lot more mileage and power for the same price.

I took your advice a few weeks ago and took my money and built an AWESOME Sandy Bridge build that is great for overclocking.

WWDC is today so wait and see what they come out with plus used prices should drop further after the announcement so if you'd still prefer too buy used you save more money if you wait. I've been waiting for about eight months to replace my laptop as i wanted to wait for Ivy Bridge and for Apple's next gen of laptops, after today i will make my decision on which way to go.

I would choose option 1. Mine is similar and I am very pleased with it.

Why would you want to buy the mac pro? If it's for fun, I would go with the cheaper one. If it's for a special reason, than go with the mac pro which has power.

It depends what you want and need, do you like Windows, are you happy using it, or do you want a new experience? If you are getting a Mac, have a look at the portables or even the iMac they are Apples best PC's. If you want a tower computer don't buy a Mac Pro.
