How do you go about naming your technology? Do you put thought into it or just call it what it is?

For example I name my devices after greek gods that relate to the use and purpose of the devices:

Apollo (iPod Touch) - God of Music.

Hermes (iPhone 4) - God of Messaging, language, etc.

Athena (Replacement iPhone 4) - Godess of wisdom, warfare, battle strategy, reason, etc. (Named for the manner in which I obtained the phone for free 11 months out of warranty).

Zeus Kratos (MacBook Pro) - Zeus is King of the Gods and the father of Apollo, Hermes and Athena. Embodied with Kratos, the spirit of strength, power, might and rule.

Perhaps I over-think mine a little. But I'm interested in how other people go about naming their devices, what is your process? (perhaps to check that I'm not insane).

Well I name some after animals like my computers are named Narwhal or Lioness, and my phones are named after Italian female names like Concetta or Maria. My computers are also named for their purposes as well such as "Narwhal-Laptop" and such.

Do I put effort into the names, eeeeehhhh, sometimes, lmao. The Italian female names I do, animals I do too but not as much.

Laptop: Narwhal-Laptop

Server: Narwhal-Server

MediaPC: Narwhal-MediaCenter

iPhone 3G: Concetta

iPhone 4: Maria, etc, etc.

I do it like this, (only for Apple products), if its an ipod touch: "The Touch of Jacob". If its a Macbook pro, "Jacob's Pro". if its an ipad: "The Pad of Jacob". Fun names like that!

I don't name anything. My Computer is called my computer. Everything else is called by what the product is.

Wow, I love the Apollo one. It's rather clever to think of the Greek Gods to name devices. Thanks for that idea. Mine just have their standard names but I think I'll change them. My process was, buy product, look at box, leave it that name. Gets boring after a while.

Tablet,,,,, My tablet......

Guess what I call my phone.

That is right. Android

I don't have lots of devices as I don want loads.
