Are you more inclined to read something if it has better looking text?

Have you ever come across an interesting article but had problems reading it? Have you ever needed to increase the font size or use an app to make the text easier to read? I don't know about you, but this happens to me constantly.

When I started using the Readability app, I noticed that I tended to read a lot more. I read several articles irregardless of length, of which, I wouldn't have if it was not for the app. In my opinion, I think my eyes eventually get tired and the content gets harder to read when dealing with websites that have small hard-to-read text.

The second picture's font looks more attractive and clean.

To be honest, I preferred the first one, I found it more comfortable to read. The second one was too bold and large for my liking. Fonts should be unobtrusive, when reading I was to simply have the content enter my brain, not the font too!

I prefer the first one too. Then again I'm the guy who reads his shell on a small netbook display in pixel fonts with no problem. The second one looks like the rasterized font was stretched larger, which looks kinda ugly imo (and would make any graphic artist cringe, I think).

For readability, bigger text does generally help (so do reading glasses, which require no installation and are cross platform ;P ). I can see how this Readability app addition can help those with accesibility inclination.

EDIT: I can't help but feel a greater sense of promotion rather than inquisition here :x
