So I have Limited Basic cable from Comcast so that I can watch my local news and a few other channels, as I don't receive any local digital channels OTA. I noticed today that my cable box outputs at an aspect ratio of 4:3, and it cuts off parts of the picture on my Emerson 19" HDTV. I was wondering if there was any way to get it to 16:9 so that I can actually see all of the picture on the TV? It is like this on my Sceptre 32" HDTV as well. Thanks in advance. |

Usually when they broadcast for the local basic cable package, it is transmitted in 4:3 and will cut off the sides since it is only in 4:3. You will need to get a HD Package to get HD widescreen support unless they do SD widescreen, which Comcast usually do not. |

Take a look in the owner manual of your Emerson hdtv. There should be something in the menu itself of the tv where you can switch it from a normal 4:3 to 16:9 HD. They should explain it to you from there. I had notices with some of the HDTV it is a simple button on the remote in order to change it. Also if you don't have the manual available you can get it here for it so you can look it up. |

I dont think Its my TV, because i switch to HDMI for my XBOX, it is in 1080p 16:9, so I think it is just that the cable comes in at 480i 4:3. Is there any way possible that I could maybe get like an HD box or something like that from comcast, but still get the $10 per month Limited Basic, but get it in 16:9? 1
You will need to get the HD package from Comcast to get the 16:9 formatted video. Limited Package will not get you 16:9 video Okay. I was just wondering because I would be getting HD local news and such OTA, but they just don't reach where I live for some reason. Thanks for the help. I thought all cable/satellite companies in the US had some sort of Free HD deal like I know Time Warner Cable and Cablevision here in NYC has. I also know Dish and DirecTV has them as well. |
