Hi all.

I have a need to send a video feed from my desktop to another computer on my local network. It is 1gbps so should be fine.

I have tried VNC but the problem with VNC in general is that it is slow.

I need something that will send 1920x1080 to another machine that is high quality and a good frame rate.

Anyone have a way?

Trying rDesktop but does not want to work :/

If you are using Windows, Microsoft Expression Encoder will allow you to stream you desktop across a LAN and allow you to view it on other computer. http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/EncoderPro_Overview.aspx

There is a free version. http://www.microsoft.com/expression/try-it/ (bottom left box)

Splashtop is a commercial app, depending on the device you are using, but it's perfect compared to programs like TeamViewer. If your computer has an nVidia GeForce graphics card, it will be optimised. And this is seriously unbelievable speed! It will stream desktop in almost real time, including sound.

The "Splashtop Streamer" is free for Windows and Mac, and is used on the computer you want to connect to. Then download the Splashtop Client for your system - Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android. I think you need to pay for all systems except for Windows (probably due to no app store). It will search your network and list all avaliable computers. Simply type in your password specified in the streamer and you are good to go!

Note that the default resolution for it is 1024x768, but if you choose the "native resolution of the computer" it will do any resolution - without sacrificing speed.

The other cool thing is, by signing in with a Google account, you can also use it over the internet. It works the same, but with noticeable lag. I have to say though, it is truly impressive how smooth it is compared to other remote access (such as TeamViewer, LogMeIn)
