Question: I have a 1TB Hardrive in my iMac. I am looking for two seperate 1TB external drives (one for backup, one for media). Which specific models/brands do you feel comfortable recommending? I will be using TimeMachine Backup on one, and I plan to manually store videos on the second drive. Thanks! |

I have 2 Seagate hard drives and they work pretty good for me. 1. http://www.seagate.com/external-hard-drives/portable-hard-drives/performance/goflex-pro-for-mac/ 2. http://www.seagate.com/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/backup-plus-desk/ One is a desktop hard drive and the other is a portable. They both work on Mac and PC and are pretty reliable. For a TimeMachine Backup, I suggest you get the 2nd hard drive that I linked for the reason is you can hold a lot more back ups and if you want to get a smaller hard drive for travel, the 1st linked hard drive is a good travel hard drive. |

I have had pretty good luck with the acomdata external hard drives but before ever getting an external drive, always compare the price of an external drive to getting a regular hard drive and a separate external enclosure. Hard drive prices can fluctuate quickly but when it comes to pre configured external hard drives, they are quick to increase the price and are slow to drop prices. If you choose to build your own external drive, then stick with WD green drives or other lower performing drives (unless the enclosure has active cooling. PS this drive is a pretty good deal http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148886 |

ClassenTech: Great! Thanks for the quick response. I will check into these two now. DJ: Thanks for the help. :) For some reason I cannot click "comment", so I'm putting the comments I have here. I don't know why it isn't working... It could be my internet because it's acting funny the last hour or so. |

Or you can build your own. By getting an external casing and a regular 3.5 inch external drive. like a 2 or three terabyte hard drive. And just plug the cables up to it and plug everything together and format the partitions to what you want and your raring to go with it. They are easy to do and put together. I even shown one of my clients howto do it and she was surprised. |

You could get a 2TB and partition it. I linked one in my answer.
