Probably, but the problem is how to transport the diesel to farther places. I know here in NYC, it's hard driving a diesel car. In the Dominican Republic, almost every station has a diesel pump, versus here in the states, you'd have to drive farther to find a station that does have a diesel pump. If they make more diesel pumps, people will switch to diesel. I love diesel, since I drive a pick-up in the Dominican Republic, they're better and cheaper. In the states, if I drove a diesel, I'd be an oddball.

depends where you live as to what costs more ..

i do know that hybrids are not the solution to the issues at all they are only a first step in getting people use to the break and dependency on oil and oil byproducts as well as a break from larger faster cars and stereo types about other fuels ...

the move I am seeing is to small personal transportation and a huge move from family beasts and mom taxis, I think the move in hybrid is going to be from gas of any nature , it will be electric and what ever the next sustainible energy source is going to be ..

I absolutely think that hybrid cars powered by both electricity and diesel will become more popular than average petroleum/electric hybrid.

Heck, those things could probably get well over 100 mpg if they're tuned right!

diesel hybrids dont even make any sense in reality diesel already are both by nature they require plugging in to start more so in cold weathers they have fire plugs to keep the fuel thin it would just make electric car less efficient in ways ..

the next move is from gas fossil fuels altogether and I don't think its to far off to be honest , the hard part for many in countries where everyone has become accustom to having at least one car they are going to be so costly that they are going to become more rare public transportation will become more used out of need for affordable transportation ..

you can bet most if not all governments have there eye on a target date when anything but hybrids will be outlawed on or off road I believe this is such an important issue for the environment at this point it is going to effect cars on the sports level as well NASCAR and such too ..

the trend I am seeing right now is a move to small 1 2 and 3 passenger vehicles more like covered motorcycles and scooters with full body heated for all season use ..

Diesel is more efficient though than petrol.
