Its illegal here in New Jersey, and its a good thing too. When people talk on their cell phones, they are without 1 hand. So lets say they need that hand to avoid hitting a tree by making a sharp turn, because they got distracted by their friend on the cell phone. Or lets say they need to shift, and their transmission blows, or they use their non cell phone hand to shift and the hit the steering wheel with their knee, crash into a car, and kill a 1 week old baby?

Didn't mythbusters prove that driving while talking on the cell phone up to your ear is worse than driving drunk?

Texting while driving should be a big NO because it takes a hand off the wheel, and your eyes off the road.

Phone calls should only be okay if you have a bluetooth headset. You should never have to take your hands off the wheel for more than a few seconds however.

I think California made a decision on this and required bluetooth headsets to talk while driving. I prsonally do not have a problem with either.

Well, look at the amount of cars on the road in California.

ALL 'distracted driving' should be banned!. I am tired of people zeroing in on technology. By banning 'distracted driving', I mean ALL of the following need to be banned: Lighting cigarettes, combing hair, eating, attending to children using your hands, writing, playing with handheld objects. etc. etc. If one wants to keep people attentive to the road, ban ALL, and I mean ALL 'distracted driving'. if that cannot be done, then don't zero in on only one form of distracted driving!!

It should be illigal, because it impairs you from concentrating on the road and watching out for incidences.

*Edit: Dang, thought the question was "should it be illegal"... will add another answer for that.

Didn't add that other answer, there was already one there. I don't deserve this upvote.

Already is in Britain I believe, and yes it should be illegal because people do not concentrate on the road!

Hands Free should be legal, but nothing that involves taking one's hands off the wheel or eyes off the road
