Old people/Parents and Technology

They didn't grow up in it, it basically got thrown towards them. If they don't have any interest in it them selfs they wont take the time/effort to learn technology. I've got some friends who are first class nerds (just like me) and friend who even have problems finding the power button.

Don't think everyone is the same as yourself, I've done this myself and it can lead to some raging moments for yourself.

There are a lot of people who have difficulty with technology. It has absolutely nothing to do with age. One of the early adopters in my home town was in her 80s when the first PCs came onto the market. In the days when I had an Amstrad PCW running Locoscript I often consulted with a man in his 70s who was writing his first book with it.

It would be a very grand assumption that all your contemporaries are as adept as you apparently think they are. Hang around on support sites for any time at all and that illusion will be well and truly shattered!

it would depend on just how old you are talking about :) keep in mind everyone that is about 49 has been around computer Video and TV and such all there life some of it was not as available or personal sized as it is today ..

they didn't become unable to learn about new technology as much as until the last decade or so when it seemed to be more important , they could go about there live and bringing there families up enjoying road trips big holiday celebrations and watching and hour or 2 of TV at night and playing games before bed..

the technology that was up and coming back then was slower people would look and know that it was something no doubt there grand children would go to collage and learn work with and under stand , each new development took years , today development in magically every number of weeks life use to be slow people took there time got things right the first time everyone had a life time to do things and get them done today life is so hurried all are expected to live 50 to 100 life times in One ..

any one who dont beleive how sped up things are to day stop and think back in 70's the better part of homes were just starting to enjoy telelphone and TV at home if you had color you were considered rich or a princess phone you were said to be living high on the hog or beyond your means depending , the big deal was taking the family to the drivein on saturday night for movies , just 5 years after there was cable HBO, VHS, Video games not long after that 3 years or less compuserve AOL and windows were becoming a house hold word when some were just getting there first calculator and getting use to the Idea of cordless phone they blinked and cellphones were hitting it big ...

there really was no big credit card use only the very well to do had them life moved slower there was no such thing as disposable income people believed in savings college funds and saving all there life for there peice of the american dream one day they woke up life was services poor there was no leisure time with 8 credit cards. 10 tvs. 6 cars, 35 computer, who could afford such things every parent was trying to support and manage no less then 2 american dreams each..

people use to take time to save and go on vacation to real places today kids lay around hand outs are a way of like they sit in front of computer go on virtual vacations and complain parents dont know nothing ..

today new born is the new retiree by the time they are in and out of school and college they will have lived 15 life times and need another 30 to pay for it ..

today kids grow up playing with smart phones there only hope for there life is to own a tablet or Ipad where is the desire to grow make things better some times today if you look at the world where is the new Ideas if it not related to computer or internet its pretty hard to find in some ways its like the dot com era was born and life sped up 50 times but out side of that it stoppded growing nothing outside the computer was as important ..

sometimes things are not always as they appear at all, technology is one of them things before you say parents and old people dont understand it remember this if it wasn't for our last 3 generations great great grandparent and up we all would still be waking up with the sun going to bed at the sun set spending every second between hunting for lunch and dinner farming kids and adults alike just to survive ..

some do say we are where we are today because the time is right for it others would say we are over looking to many things to far advanced for our own good and inthe end we will pay for it which when you look at life jobs and the economies of the world today could be true ..

either way to say old people dont under stand technology is to say we still have no electric lights in home no indoor plumbing no water treatment plants no industrial revelation , where did trains, planes cars, trucks construction equipment the rubber and plastic wheel Oh yeah plastic Oil would be nothings without methods to refine it in quantities..

without mass production with the level of population today there would be big mall full of well nothing as we could not produce enough to support the weight of life on the planet forget a single city which can have as many as 6 million humans in one place living ..

what is the most important technology where did it come from and what is leasure technology and how come all have time loads of free time to learn and use it ..

let see What technologies make the computer possible hmm , Recording and playing back of sound magnetic tape oh you mean tape reel to reel, cassette, 8 track.

Radio wireless would be nothing with out the invention of radio , telephone internet would be hoplessly useless without the invention of telegraph and telephone, some might say telegraphj hows that fit in well ASCII is a form of morse code ASCII which is the invisable code that is use to produce the letter and such for each key you press on your keyboard it is a form of morse code it is also what in the modem screech that your computer comunication across the phone lines to and from other computers ..

Modem its self mean modulate demodulate another term from radio telephone and telegraph ..

the transistor makes makes the computer small enough to be personal home item, the on and off switch I mean after all the computer processor is nothing more then a few million on and off switches on is 1 off is 0 110111011 computer code the key to the digital revelation :)

the invention of DC power is key to all because if any of this stuff had to run on electric AC it would be dead in the water not clean to noisy a good power supplies most important job is to turn AC power into DC effectively and efficiently no modern electronic can run on AC what so ever in fact the only reason its AC that is delivered to your home is because it could be done simple in massive quanity how ever wasteful and inefficient it is..

there is a lot more but that is a good Idea at how far technology has really came people 200 and years back were build the very thing we take for granted to day one piece at a time they all under stood it they all had the vision the pieces all had to be recovered invented perfected then pull together in one place ..
