Is it safe to install dropbox on my computer

I do have a dropbox account and have my files on the website. But should I install dropbox on my macbook computer? Technically speaking aren't my files more safe online rather than being on my computer incase I get a virus of some kind?

Dropbox is great and I do recommend it! But don't rely on it for everything, just use it for important things you might need to get to if you're on another device.

Also don't worry so much about viruses! You would have to go on some dodgy websites and do some bad downloads to get a virus, especially on a mac. Just be careful of what you do online. Back up everything on an external hard drive and run some anti virus, don't be afraid to keep files on your hard drive.

I do have a mac but I don't have any anti virus. Had this machine about 4 months and not had any problems.

There is a great thread on Anti Virus for mac further down, I wrote a large piece about AV, and the advice I gave can be used for all computer users no matter what OS you use :o)
