I'm forever loyal to Google and Gmail, but when I noticed I don't use my Yahoo mail anymore, I decided to make a new email for the sense of A) No more porn spam, and B) I wanted to try Live out since I haven't used it in ages. How safe is Windows Live vs Gmail, because I'm forever hooked to Gmail, as you can see on the first tab, I have over 15,235 emails and my inbox STILL isn't full. I balance many emails and since this email is purely for DJing, this isn't filled with crap often. So this isn't checked as often. Plus, this is the only email that I can make a @.co.uk email (needed it for some more Soundcloud time that only English people have that ability to have more time) without being on a proxy, so that's a plus, lol.

Not very, I got so called "hacked" couple of times. Someone or something (machines) were sending ad emails from my and my dad's account to all my contacts. I changed to GMail and NEVER had a similar issue. Hotmail sucks.

Clearly none of the haters are using strong passwords, and too obvious security questions!!!.. Heres an idea, stop using password or 12345678 as your bloody passwords! :o)

I have had the SAME hotmail account as my main email account since quickly checks 19th March 2000 and I have never been hacked...

The amount of spam at one point getting into my email though was terrible, but that was the same for everyone... Now its gotten better but still needs improving... Hotmail is getting better at sorting the spam into the junk folder, but occasionaly there is a stray email with "penis enlargments" offers or such...

Would I recommend them today?

In a word: no...

Why? Because there are alot better services today, such as Gmail. Google is wayyyyyy ahead of every other online email service. My hotmail email address is and has been apart of my life for 12 years, and that makes it very difficult for me to want to change to a different service, so I have decided to stick with it! As for the security of hotmail, its no more or less secure than Gmail... Not if you use a little amount of time and effort to secure your email account, you will never be hacked!

Ehh, I'll never make Live or anything else my primary address, always Gmail. Gmail and all the Google Products are just ♥. Hand in hand, never had a problem with them AT ALL.

I wouldn't either today mate... However it was the best of the bunch back in 2000 :) And I really don't want to change email address now, unless at some point I am forced too...

Have to be honest, I ditched all email accounts I had when I went Gmail. There's nothing better out there in my personal and humble opinion. And why would you try something new, while you love Gmail? Isn't it easier to setup an extra account?

Maybe I'm old-fashion, but I usually stick with what I like and hardly try-out anything else once I've found what I'm looking for...

Ehh, you're not old fashioned, lmao. I'm trying out Hotmail for the sake of me getting an account with @co.uk at the end. I need it for some extra time on Soundcloud that only people with English emails can have. I couldn't set it up without proxies and whatever, and Live was the only one that could do all that with no proxies.

I got rid of my LOONNGGG Gmail Address and went to Mail.com, because of so many domain choices. They have so many I got my first name (cameron at webname dot com)

(Jul 18 '12 at 14:39) Cameron Cameron's gravatar image

As I said to @lacobus, I will never give up my Google account ever, and believe me if I could set up a Gmail with that @co.uk extension, I'd do it. That's the only reason I set it up with them, otherwise I'd use my Gmail for everything (which I almost do).

See, I was looking at GMX, but GMX looks kind of bootleg though, plus no one has ever heard of GMX, and so I assume the spam filters will catch it.

Hotmail is the worst email "service" I have ever used. Poor security, lots of spam and always buggy. Avoid it!

(Jul 18 '12 at 14:57) DJ Scooby Doo DJ%20Scooby%20Doo's gravatar image

Possibly. I use Yahoo (previously BT) as my main which is great and I have heard good things about Gmail. Hotmail is a definite no go area!

(Jul 18 '12 at 16:19) Fish Fish's gravatar image

I never use Online Mail. As you can see on Hotmail, there is no SSL Certificate, so your mail can be easily read for passwords, etc. while Google has SSL (https://) on there website. I however use probably the safest way, a desktop mail client like Thunderbird which I don't think works with your OS :( [Assuming that's Windows 8]

http://i.imgur.com/WFjes.png That's one of the reasons I love Gmail :) And yeah, I could always use the Outlook 2013 app, but I'm lazy to open it now, I used to open it but it got too much of a hassle. As I said, I'm only going to use this @hotmail.co.uk email for DJing only (Soundcloud, Reverbnation, Caster.fm), and maybe only check it once a week or so.

Well, I have an email for signups on sites that send you constant emails, and an email for sites like Facebook, Lockergnome.net (Don't mind lockergnome's emails because they concern me), and other stuff as well as personal emails from people.

What utter BULL!

Hotmail has all the required certificates to remain and be secure...

Perhaps you should stop using Internet Explorer 5,5!

My Yahoo account used to be for everything iPhone related such as apps and what not, but thank god I changed it before it got spammed to the MAX.

I got Live for the messenger and Sky Drive...Hotmail is part of the package. I get a little junk mail from drug companies. I think all the major browsers have Https Everywhere anyway. Microsoft takes security as seriously if not more than anyone else. Anything one does ca nbe go tte n aro und.

SkyDrive I use a little bit, it sucks that it's only 7GB now. I wanted the HUGE 25GB. -__-

(Jul 18 '12 at 14:58) DJ Scooby Doo DJ%20Scooby%20Doo's gravatar image

Existing customers still have the full 25GB. I have two accounts linked to SkyDrive so I've actually got 50 xD The only thing that sucks about SkyDrive is that you can't upload files larger than 300MB or so.

LOL. I just checked my hotmail account and all the notifications for this thread were in my junk folder.

hotmail is not bad I have had the samer hot mail account since 1999 use it all the time I dont usually get spam in that account unless I ask for it some how at this point there was a time when hotmail was nothing but a spam magnet though ..

what I would say about makeing an accountthere is to make one use it on a trail bases for now there is rumore that microsoft as part of there make over is going to do away with hotmail they will still have mail service but under a new service name Live service is coming to an end with win7

win 8 is a you might say the birth of a new mirosoft network it hasnt been made completely clear if hotmail will continue on till it does from lack of interest or is all acounts will just be dumped when win8 cloud service is going in full swing ..

I think as I read it and this is I guess just rumore the new service is going to be called newmail ..

I personally hate hotmail. Their security is flawed, their anti-spam system is terrible and their servers unreliable. That's why I only use GMail (The best!).

That is more secure. You shouldn't have problems with it. I used it for a while and never got hacked. But HTTPS will make that 20x harder.
