Windows 7, in my view Windows 8 is a dumbed down version of Windows 7, and Microsoft is forcing people to switch to Windows 8, for tablets, alright maybe you can get away with it, but who wants to go from a sleek professional looking smooth UI to a child's toy, we want to get things down, not look like we're in preschool.

I'd have to say 8. I know I'm going to get hate for all this, but I'm used to the Metro interface now, and the booting time is phenomenal. 7 is good too but I'm going to use 8 when it comes out, (depending on the price). If it's higher then lets say $40, I'm going to stick with 7 since I know that well.

I'm saying 8 because I've been using it since Developer, so I've grown accustomed to Metro, and my battery lasts longer on 8 than 7. Longer as in 7 I got 2h 30min-3h, but in 8 I get 3h-4h 30min.

Windows 7. Windows 8 is an awful user experience which forces users to endure a poorly designed GUI. Windows 7 is at least useable.

Why vote down? This is an honest opinion and one shared by many.

Can't be answered. If it's not closed I'll come back when Win8 SP1 is released. MORAL: Betas can't be compared to something that's been out for years.

There are a lot of positive features in Windows 8 that just keep showing up in reviews and posts. With that the $40 price tag talks pretty loud. As long as it gives enough user control to make my personal experience a good one; I could easily overlook the inappropriate front end.

im not even sure win7 VS win8 is a fair to match one against another your talking bananas and oranges there :)

win 7 is more compairable to many linux flavors today then it is win 8 i dont beleive for a min win 8 is poor you just need the right equipment to use it on for a fair evaluation I know microsoft sorta dumped win 8 beta off on everyone mainly desk top laptop mouse based click and point how ever they also gave fair warning that is exscatly what it was they got you to test it help work many bugs out help delvelopers get there aps geared for it ..

BASICALLY GAVE ALL A GLIMPS AT THE FUTURE of personal computer like it or hate it weather windows and surface are a hit or a flop and mircosoft vanishes from existance the retna screen tablet design cloud driven is here to stay ..

and put your self in these companys places where the price of desk top computers and lap tops bottom out rock bottom loss leader stuff compaired to the $500 to $1500 ultrabook and tablets everyone has ben turning to and willing to buy :)

it is where the money is aps cloud space subcription service and these new technologys alot of people out there are saying by 2020 all the crying will be over and most will be boosting how they enjoy it I dont give it that long I say we are goingto see a new era happen not longer after the holidays these low price tablets are going to be a #1`gift and people are most likel going to be going into batter for them on ebay with bidding wars for them ..

i found this story all over the internet tonight maybe will give you some Idea where Microsoft is heading with there manufactures ..

" Dell's New Ubuntu Linux Laptop Is Coming This Fall"

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/259453/dells_new_ubuntu_linux_laptop_is_coming_this_fall.html

just coincidence its hitting at or around the same time win 8 will be released ??

this in ways was a surprise but has been in the pipeline for a while as far as I know no company has produce a lap top in over a year , they pretty much abandoned them as they lost all value in the market very hard to make a profit on very low cost computers specially with dropping sales for ultra book note books and tablets ...

but I am reading reposrt they they actually have received thousand of request from around the world in suport of this ..

http://bartongeorge.net/2012/07/18/project-sputnik-to-go-from-pilot-to-product/ "Since the beta announcement we have received thousands of applications from around the world. This tremendous response, on top of fantastic amount of input we have received on the Project Sputnik storm session, has convinced us to take this project from pilot to product.

This fall we will be offering an Ubuntu 12.04LTS-based laptop pre-loaded on Dell’s XPS13 laptop"

One simple answer: Windows 8 is DOA even before it shows up on the market. Windows Vista was so bad that a lot of people never updated their XP Systems and XP, after 12+ years, is still running strong. I predict that Windows 8 is so bad that it'll keep Windows 7 alive, until windows 9 or 10 is introduced. Forget about windows 8 - use Windows 7. As for upgrading from Windows 7 to 8 on the same hardware - NOWAY NOHOW!

the problem is now windows XP will be dead too windows is moving to the cloud and nothing outside of win7 and win8 will work this includes office ..

as odd as it sounds they are more or less saying you are going along for the ride this time or remain like in the very distant past even window will not be compadible with windows ..

and locked is an interesting word because that is just what they are doing to all computer that install win8 locking them in no way out ..

I'd pick Windows 8 for (screen) touch-based computers and Windows 7 for more traditional keyboard/mouse/trackpad computers.

If it comes with a computer, sure, not enough of an update from Windows 7 to worry upgrading from what I currently use.
