I think they're getting scared. Be very careful if you are thinking of releasing a new touchscreen phone.

It's not just Apple suing people. Everybody is suing everybody. It's a good way to get ahead of the competition and if I bought a patent I'd do everything to uphold it.

The problem is that their patents, along with most software patents, are completely horrible. The entire system needs a complete rewrite.

Of course it does! But I doubt that'll happen any time soon unfortunately.

They are suing who ever they can to keep themselves ahead of competition. That's how it works now right >_>

Apple keeps suing because they keep finding more excuses to sue companies like Google.

Because they cannot compete using Capitalism. Short and sweet.

You think the world's most valuable company can't compete using Capitalism? Psh.

They'd do just fine without suing, they do it because they can. It's smart business.

(Jul 20 '12 at 00:46) sfrancis928 sfrancis928's gravatar image

Smart business is suing everyone instead of competing? Pushing out your competitors with legalities? That is smart business? Interesting concept, although the numbers don't support it, people are leaving them for android phones. Android is dominating market share, and it is only getting stronger because of things like this. If they can compete using Capitalism, why aren't they? Because they know, just like Microsoft, their day is coming. And they are about to answer to a penguin.

(Jul 21 '12 at 16:46) Drmgiver Drmgiver's gravatar image

Yes, it is smart business. I didn't say it was honest business or fair business. I said smart.

I think they're doing just fine competing with Android, which is only part of what they do. Of course Android is becoming more popular, there are a zillion Android phones competing against ONE iPhone. Considering that, and the fact that 10% of cell phone users in America are iPhone users, I don't think they're very worried. Yes they can compete, and they ARE competing, but who wouldn't do everything they can to keep the edge?

(Jul 21 '12 at 21:28) sfrancis928 sfrancis928's gravatar image

What they are doing is not demonstrating "doing everything they can to keep the edge". What they are demonstrating is "clinging to every last strand they can to stay alive" Like I said, their judgement day is coming. Their juror is a penguin.

(Jul 21 '12 at 21:37) Drmgiver Drmgiver's gravatar image

Hahaha, "stay alive" as if Apple is dying. That's just silly.

(Jul 21 '12 at 22:24) sfrancis928 sfrancis928's gravatar image

Oh really? You never saw the crash of the telecommunications companies coming did you? But they did crash.

(Jul 21 '12 at 22:28) Drmgiver Drmgiver's gravatar image

Haha okay, so that means Apple is likely to die soon too then? When Apple dies you're welcome to say "I told you so." Until then I say no way.

(Jul 21 '12 at 23:34) sfrancis928 sfrancis928's gravatar image

They are doing the same thing that the telecommunications companies did years back. Well, at least they aren't lying about their dirty deeds.

To be fair, it is not just apple, but they seem to be among the worst. What is a better way to stay ahead of their competition by making the scared to tread int he same water.

I 100% agree with this judges ruling, I can't say for sure why he ruled the way he did, my guess is he is tired of getting all these cases and wanted to bring apple down a notch. Maybe having to post that they where wrong for 6 months is great. But I get the feeling apply will appeal it. I also get the feeling that it wont change a whole hell of a lot too.

The whole concept of the intellectual property has probably caused more headaches than it has cured. What I'm guessing was supposed to be rules of engagement became a nebulous king of the hill struggle with gray evidences to present to the judges. The legal teams as are very well fed. Those resources could be going into making the next I.P. better. When a company comes up with something innovative it's still not right that another could make a few small changes and make them compete with something that's essentially one of their own wares. This happens all too often. I think it's obvious why the open source movement began. A non-shared system is a complication to the overall development environment. OpenGL is used by all the major OSs. Instead of using and developing modern versions of whats probably the best graphics API there is; they put there own API on top of an earlier version ie...DirectX and X11. For this reason graphics adapters must support 2 graphics APIs. It's seems complexity is having it's day.

Your Question has a very simple answer: Because everyone COPIES anything & everything that Apple does. Apple spends the $$BILLIONS$$ on research - design and development. Companies like Samsung (and many others) just buy one unit of that product and thru reverse engineering copy the product lock stock and barrel, manufacturing their own product without spending a dime on R&D&D. They also do this not covertly, but in the open and in the Apple's face. Not fair! Apple software is copied to the max by companies like Microsoft, their hardware is reverse engineered and reproduced (with a very low quality) and sold. Imagine how many $$BILLIONS$$ a company like Samsung has saved by just waiting for the Apple products to show up and then just simply copying it and selling it at a lower price. As I said the answer to your question is simple.

you are so confused and wrong :)

everyone is not copying everything apple does everything they are doing the technology now advancing but it was all there before apple started with Iphone or Ipad they were out there long ago before either existed ..

the only orginal $$ they spent was to figure out if they could make any return if they took the risk to join the cellular party ...

in fact all this technology existed through the 70's back in the before the birth of apple as a company , it all started with Ham radio operators wiring computer and radio together and using it for bulletin board service back in the day when colored TV was new maybe 2 homes in a neighborhood had one or could afford one AM Top40 radio was still #1

there is nothing new here at all they have taken what Hobbes developed between ham CB and very very new market the term PC didn't exist even not even mean politically correct as them words meant nothing at the time either the guys that founded apple were only a few years out of diapers they didn't have billions of dollars to invest..

these guys imitated what Motorola. Nokia. Ericson and other were already doing, they borrowed on technology that took years to prove it could be profitable enough to pour not billions but trillions into the infrastructure it take to support it..

smart phones and Tablets both existed before Iphone or Ipad. Palm pilot is onew name to search and dig deeper into as is WebOS this is just two names there are others..

We'll you certainly are entitled to your opinion, but just to prove it to yourself, take an iPhone and any smartphone and compare the operation for yourself. You will see that the entire operation is the same ask iPhone. do the same thing with iPad and other "slates", and you will see the exact same thing. Also remember that iPhone and iPad were first to reach the market. As for telling me how wrong I am and also confused, I prefer you keep 'that' opinion to yourself.

(Jul 21 '12 at 14:18) PooPsTech PooPsTech's gravatar image

that was not my opinion :)

that was how things came about ,your confusion was not an opinion it is an observation ...

this is a public forum for questions and answers board if you get involved people are bound to have a few question answer observations ..

there are many technology being used in computing cell phone tablet all piled together most of them over 100 years old there is nothing new here just the way its used all together..

most of the companies involved today are all borrowing from invention and Ideas and patents from long ago yup even some programming languages ..

the rules on some types of patents on programs and such are wrong whats worse big companies are using them to hold back competition because they just cant seem to compete in a true open market with real competition microsoft is a big one showing huge weakness as there monopoly in the market shrinks and shrinks

lol He doesn't have to keep any opinion to himself, and it also isn't an opinion. You are simply just dead wrong on it. First off, iPhone was not the first developed. They were the last actually. Now, you are right on your second post. It feels the same way because they COPIED THEM! Do your research before you come in here with such obvious fanboyism to the point where you are delusional. Your not only drinking Apple's kool-aid, but your lapping up every last drop and reveling in it.

(Jul 21 '12 at 16:55) Drmgiver Drmgiver's gravatar image

ehh apple does a nice job have to give them that there are somethings they do well for sure .. they are very good apparently at making people believe being #1 makes you the first or only one who can do it ..

(Jul 21 '12 at 17:06) jadtechnic jadtechnic's gravatar image

But they aren't #1. iOS is getting dominated by Android. In small areas, I would say people are warming up to the idea that Linux is best.
